• Industry

Industry comprises mining companies and associations, for instance in the context of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The industry codes and policies and their external verification tackling the issues of credibility and accountability will be evaluated and their synergies with ISO 14001 standards state of implementation will be considered. The analysis will be limited to aspects of exploration, exploitation and processing of raw materials.

  • Civil Society

Civil society by nature is very heterogeneous and by consequence their agendas and interests will also be very heterogeneous. The heterogeneity can probably be best captured through membership in the diverse groups of stakeholders and their form and level of organisation. Civil society encompasses a wide array of individuals and organisations of different type, size, and function, including not-for-profit NGOs, community-based organisations (CBOs), religious organisations, cooperatives, and many more. They address mining footprints primarily from a social and environmental perspective.

  • Government

This group relates to governmental policies from supranational to national, regional and local levels at the test sites. The reference points are EU policies such as EU Sustainable Development Strategy, EU Thematic Strategy on the Sustainable Management of Natural Resources, EU Action Plan for Sustainable Consumption and Production, Sustainable Industry Policy, and EU Raw Materials Initiative.

  • Trialogue Introduction

The project will identify policies that address the environmental social and societal footprint of mineral industries of industry, civil society and government. Based on results, the project will initiate and develop a sound "trialogue" between the three main groups involved based on reliable and objective information about ecosystems, populations and societies affected by mining activities. This "trialogue" will assist towards the reconciliation of interests in order to reach common agreement upon actions to deal with environmental and societal impacts of mining activities..
